News from Wednesday, March 03, 2004 @ 12:50 PM, PSTPlease respond to this address if you get this, the site is back up after a static IP switchover. What is the ftp site name that you wanted? I need it so I can put it into the dns provider so it can resolve. Or did you buy it yet?

Hi Barry,
glad to hear from you. sorry to hear about the job loss…
i went ahead and purchased “dlamembers.com”.
here is the dns info listed for both “deadletterat.com” and “dlamembers.com” :
ns1.dnsexit.comns2.dnsexit.comi am thinking that a root folder that is entirely isolated from anything else might work best… what do you suggest?
also, will “march2050″ work for the password?
thank you.

Are you sure you purchased it?
I get this when I look it up
Doamin is not registered
DLAMEMBERS.COM is not registered yet.
A domain must be registered first to be accessable through DNS.

i think it took some time for them to register it (or whatever)..
anyway, it has been registered at thenic.com.
i had to set a password and such, so now if you go to
https://secure.thenic.com/login/
and enter the following info
account: “dlamembers.com”
username: “[… omitted …]”
and pw: “[… omitted …]”
you should have access to the dns controls.
let me know if i can help in any way.
thanks,
jeff

I added ftp.dlamambers, com to my dnsexit service, so it is now redirecting. I have not yet set the server up to catch that name though, so I should do that sometime tomorrow.

did everything work out with dlamembers.com?
i tried accessing ftp but failed using
‘[…username…]’ / […password…]’..
i tried going to dlamembers.com but only saw ‘doug love.com’..

pwd is [… omitted …]
I gave the members 5MB so someone doesn’t try to bring us down by adding files until the server crashes…
Let me know if it still doesnt work, I just tried though.

okay, it works — but it is not secure!
using maxFTP, i was able to ‘go up’ a level into the parent directory and then up again, etc… (but, i didn’t try accessing anything inside the folders — so maybe they are in fact secure? i don’t know..)
and what’s up with doug love?

ok, I just put deny dlamembers permission on the deadletterart directory (the one above). Please check with your maxFTP to see if you can do the same thing now. Also check the deadletterart account as well to see if we have more problems! And now www.dlamembers.com directs to www.deadletterart.com, you could make a site for them if you want to. If you decide to, just make a a directory under deadletterart called dlamemberssite or something, and let me know when you want me to redirect to there.

maxFTP still is able to access upper-level folders from ftp.dlamembers.com ..
everything still works fine for the deadletterart account ! (btw, we have a brand-new site about to swap out the old one..)
i created the directory ‘dlamembers’ under ‘deadletterart’. (btw, as soon as i created it, there was a blank .txt document found inside — can it be deleted?).
and, could you redirect www.dlamembers.com to the new ‘dlamembers’ directory?
thank you.

What user ID are you using that can access the upper level folders?
I can redirect, but you need to know that for both sites on Windows default.asp or default.htm are the default document names, so make yours accordingly otherwise I have to set it each time.

I am working on the problem of terminal server lockout, when I get that fixed, I will be able to change the security settings so dlsmembers is locked out of anything above that directory.

No, its not that big of a headache…
I think I just tightened the security too far though, and it seems not to be resetting…
Ill get back to it by tomorrow.
Hope you are not on it right now
