Re: HEY YOU!

DLa News News from Saturday, August 09, 2003 @ 12:30 AM, PST

Sorry I have been quiet. My computer decided to take revenge on me and I have been fighting it pretty hard. Reinstalled windows twice so far, still have problems. Finally got internet capabilities back, reinstalled a bit of software to get me going. I am sending [Nimbus] files, so maybe give him a call and make sure he checks his mail.

Dude, I hope you know that the emails I have been sending are sent with a smile. I hope you don’t think I am intentionally being a dick — all it is is that recurring, mad rush to pump another issue out… Dude, IT’S COOL!!!! I empathize with you about computer crashes — my laptop goes down every couple of months.. Anyway, I wish we weren’t so far apart, I find myself often missing your (and Yasuko) friendship and collaborations on art, computers, life, etc…! And totally miss the Seattle days, giving birth to our humble creation: Dead Letter aRT. It may seem inconsequential in the hustle and bustle of everyday life, but that magazine has a purpose, and has affected more than one person in a profound way.. so, we keep it going, and it keeps us going, thinking and doing art. Thane and I often reminisce about the good ol days in Seattle, and can only imagine how bad-ass your skill is becoming, and how awesome a job you will end up getting — living your true calling. Even though Yasuko does blow you away! Ha!!!! Seriously, though, I want to establish a better communicational architecture with you — not only because I am eager to help coordinate east-west DLa biz with you for the next issue (which they don’t think you will actually finish…all in good humor, of course), but also to keep it real — life is short. You know. So, anyway, just in case you were wondering, that;s what;s up with th e perishable set..

what’s up with you?

Hey, Hey, we are just wrapping up our move into our new place, but I have not hooked up the computer yet, I am actually in Moses at the moment, although we will be leaving in a few to get back to the Seattle grind. While here though, would like to give you the good news that we got DLA.com finally up and running, but we will have to set up FTP shortly and will give you the info and passwords soon. Hope you didn’t get too frustrated with the whole thing, I know I did. Well, I will get back with ya later, and of course I assume we will see each other at T money’s big hitch.

wait! and - SEE!!
yeh.. i guess we should wait. what do you think of using one of those 50mb free sites for our own inter-DLA still? at least that would be something stable (maybe?) in case the DLA site doesnt pan out […]

as far as the website goes, I spent about an hour last nite digging thru our current online (if outdated) website. it is pretty meaty, and i think we could very well be wasting our time trying to build it all up tuff agin. but, perhaps a smaller, sleeker, more streamline d turd of a site with tuff graphics and best content only would be werth the effort — and, come to think of it, we could even register f-disk.com (or similar) to avoid the mess of having to transfer and fight the blast family server farm. ieither way, i think it would be sweet to start fresh on a fresh-looking site that doesn’t nec have to be deadletterart.com. think fdisk. plus, 50 McBytes is quite a bit of space.

there is a turd for you.
frush a wet one back at me.

f’d isk dot dot dot
start fresh. get fresh. fish fresh.
scales breath.
we shouldnt give up dla site just cuz brothers are cuttin our game.
gotta get down - represent your town!

i think ignoring the content that is on the web right now is the best approach to revamping the site. forget what you see! reach out with your feelings!! i think the current site IS meaty - but also it is dripping fat, and embedded with chunks of gristle — a mess. too much. less is MORE! plus - if we keep it simple and the offerings lite, we can revamp the whole thing over and over again quite easily. rather than ending up with a big beefy chunk that we are all afraid to touch - just the bulk of it prevents any inspired soul from updating it even. treasured hoof. i got this 3 dog night record - sweet! its called “golden bisquits” and has a tuf surrealist chunk on the cover.
worth framing.
golden.
bisquits.

Yesss… I sseee your point… more iss LESS, and LEsss hisss more…yesssss….yessssss…

– but what are saying about the URL? fight the battle? transfer domain? –

que?

it wirr take some pranning to accomprish, but werthy of our efforts.

we now need:

  1. get info on how to transfer a domain name.
  2. explain it to ken-poo and get his brother’s contact info.
  3. get brother-san to do what he needs to do, and do it when we tell him.
  4. point after point just digging your hole, slow digging with a spoon.
  5. create new, sweet-ass, DLa DLa website and FTP immediately!

This is a ruf outline of sh*t needing done if we are to go with pran A.

Otherwise, pran B:

  1. get F-Disk.edu or equivalent, DLa pays a modest fee, and start clean.

What do you think?

I am game for either, but want to emphasize the potentially hellish battle pran A has to offer.

it all depends on whether or not and how the FTP is hooked up. y’all. if it is just as slow, hard to deal with, etc.. as before - then i think we should xfer domain. BUT - if the site is somehow easier to use, access via FTP than before - we should stay.

disregarding any of this - - - we could still pimp out a Fdisk site. wee could buy a new domain or just F’ around with it on the free 50mb.
