FINANCIAL CONCERNS
there was a loose, and very general consensus that the "Member Regulations" and so forth were a bit too formal and serious for what we are doing right now - and that we could continue to do business as friends w/out this formality.
[Sui Lan] did a very good job of putting things in perspective, and showing how costs work over time, and i think that it was all great info. with that info in mind, i would suggest that we continue as before w/ each person putting in what they can, or want to - whether that be $0 or $100 a month.
there is not any danger of this killing dla (although if money did run dry, then it is likely nobody would get a printed copy of anything). my premise is - if you are enjoying it, and it is worthwhile to you, you will help out if/as you can.
putting in more money does not mean you "run the show" - that ended at MLHS. it just means you are helping out for the good of all - and you should not expect to feel cheated when others dont put in as much, or feel that you are unjustly paying $60 for your measely one issue. that is a choice you are making up front by putting in more money.
i feel strongly that dla should be free to everybody to participate in, and not some exclusive club. i will stand up for any one of us to be involved, regardless of cost to the whole. this has been true in the past for [BHBW], [Kalacakra], and [FCU] - and i expect it to be true for anybody else (including me!).
COMICS ISSUE
one issue about production that was not addressed:
there needs to be a somewhat wider margin on the inside edge so that we can bind them properly, and not get any content lost in the cracks. if you are opposed to me using my best judgement to align things, you should say so now. (there is no way of knowing which side of which page is the ‘inside’ at this point - the only way to plan for it, if you are still creating your stuff, is to make the page a bit narrower.)
other stuff about the comics:
since it is every man for himself for print cost this time - there are no extras for the comic shops. [BHBW] may be willing to pay the $6 per issue cost of several xtra for this purpose? in any event, the unsold copies would go directly back to him.
deadlines:
if you can - by the end of this week. i will go to Kinko’s to download all the content left over on Sept 8, 2002. if you are not going to make this deadline, email me. if you need more time, let me know how much so i can plan for it.
please email any changes in page counts or comments about my comments
