DLa #014 After our remarkably successful Majick issue, DLa was running smooth and in full effect. As we dove into production of the next issue, we consulted the 0racle and discovered that a Heavy Metal theme had been preordained for DLa 14. To refresh our memories, ThaneC broke out with the HM stash, which included several representative issues from each generation of HM. It was (and is) sad to see the extent to which Heavy Metal has gone from providing inspiring, talented artwork from the likes of Frank Frazetta and Boris Valejo, to merely pumping out mindless reiterations of sex and violence. So, rather than the originally planned DLa Heavy Metal Tribute, we opted to mock the commercial emptiness that Heavy Metal has become. Suddenly, it all made sense. Throughout production, we collaboratively produced our own mindless, pointless, sex-and-violence comic, Polaris Nine. The HM issue also features exclusive comix by Nimbus, Osseus, Perishable, ThaneC, and Sui Lan. ThaneC pimps a dope FCU Gallery/Interview, while Perishable spits out the offensive mock advertisements. DLa 14 features include the Werdz Page, Il Commentator, and Tarot Card. Overall, it is a most complete issue, wryly exposing the sellout tactics and commercially driven mediocrity of the modern fantasy genre.
