News from Sunday, July 11, 2004 @ 6:35 PMHey,
either one of you guys own the dla distribution list??? I assume Jeff has this, but he said he was going on vacation and so I include you into the equation Thane, since I have no idea how long he intends to be gone. And Thane, since you are in the Portland area, I was wondering if you could do me a favor… There is a store called Paper Plus down there that should have stock of a special paper I have been looking for and have only found one place to acquire it, only it is in Portland or Spokane, neither of which I intend to go to soon, so…. You can find it on the internet and there will be addresses in case you have never heard of it. The paper I am looking for is from Nashua, and it is a dry gum backed paper. I tried getting some directly from the company, but they only sell by the crate, and the only distributor they have is Paper Plus. I need to see what the weight of this paper is. If it is typical postage stamp weight, I want a ream of it, if it is more like cardstock, I will probably pass, SO, could you maybe go to that store, inquire about the paper and get me a sample sheet or two to check out and test???? Send me a sheet and if it is the right stuff, I can send you some money or something for a ream, then depending on if you guys plan to come up this way for some odd reason, or I happen to want to take a vacation down there, we could trade hands or whatever. If you do this, we could maybe produce lickable postage stamps of various designs! Sound like a plan??? well, have fun guys……

Here is a snippet from the email string “texture concerns” from January 7th of this year. We were discussing DLa 20: “…moving on, about the print number, i hear what you are saying. here is our current distribution list_:
[ .. omitted .. ]
These are people who have shown continued interest in DLa and have remained on our mailing list for quite some time.. thus, if you can send 20 copies, everyone will be happy. our last issue, which was VERY expensive, was printed 30 times (ie, 30 copies — mucho dinero!), so we had ten extraz to surprise people with…”
I hope this helps..

Yes, but I was hoping to just drop them off in Moses to save me the postage, now you are living in a whole different place and I have to pay postage to get them to you on top of your postage to get them to others anyway(seems like a waste of postage, unless we can work something out about meeting sometime in the near future. (I could give you some of the zines to be sent, and get some of your envelopes and drop some packs off in Moses or something.)(??)((I kinda wanted to do something with the envelopes too.)) At any rate, with you guys moved and all, this puts a new bent on things which we should iron out to keep business running smooth and efficient. Opinions????

alright. let’s figure something out — what you say makes sense, and i am not opposed to you sending the zines out yourself, i was just a little surprised, that’s all.. anyway, since i will be visiting my parents (from spokane), it would be better for them to distribute the zines to my crew in spokane, in the same fashion as you delivering in ml. other than that, i will send you the sacred distribution list and you can personally mail the issues to everyone else. — sound okay?

Sorry, I have been rediscovering the freedom of normal life. Amazing what lies outside the walls of our dwellings. also finishing up my illustration job, I am attatching the pics for you to laugh at. figure out which ones I did. I had to base my 3.5 drawings on 2.5 from an original artist. reminds me of ron. Heh heh. Having fun, no less. Guess I should become more adamant about career searching though, gotta get on that.
anyways, how often do you visit parents? How often do you make it up north or east? We will have to figure something out to exchange stuff. if all else fails, I can send you your portion of deliverables when the time comes. in the meantime, you could send me a copy of the current mailing list and maybe mark off who will be part of your lot and I can plan my deliverables
and sendables.
Update on the zines… I have been planning a few additional “textures” and ordered some stuff for the purpose. Shipment came in today, so I will be working on finishing them up. Depending on how gung-ho I am on completing my original vision, it may be two to four weeks to complete everything. Hope this doesn’t discourage you. But after they arrive, you will undoubtedly wish to talk about production of future zines with similar processes.
Well, off to work on things.
Hope things are going good for you..
Ken

wow, those drawings really do look like ron drew them — like early weechism, like maybe if he had actually perfected his amazing “Taran” skills. you must have drawn the fighting scene and the troll-man scene — but it is difficult to say…
as far as the deliverable goods are concerned, i will attach an address list, which will include all the information you need to properly distribute your issues of dead letter art. my parents are planning to visit us here, actually, in the beginning of September, and will be able to ensure the delivery of most Spokane-based subscriber issues.
as far as your plans for the greatest dla issue ever: time will tell, i guess. to tell you the truth, i am getting tired of waiting for it. i can only anticipate something so long before it starts to become less exciting… (..how long has it been now, anyway? a year?) we’ll see.. if you do ever finish and distribute the issues, it will be a wonderful, wonderful day indeed!
well, i wish you the very best of luck in getting your issues worked out and sent out — don’t forget to save a copy of the distribution list!!
