how did you arrive at the ‘fool’ icon? i am interested to see the whole thing and how the parts interact n shizzle before i comment too much –
but, you said you were mimicing a sort of retro machine feel and i think some bevels or embossment, or shadow f/x might help pop the display feel a bit. or if you like the flatness effect, popart, et al.. maybe increase the lines or fills to be more bold (ie – thicker pink lines, and/or more open space fill in the tan area?). anything new, and especially more simple, than what is up now is going to be a vast improvement, i think, anyhow. how much longer is the site in incubation? are you paralleling the development of the issue?

interesting is good enough. i could have spent hours tweaking aesthetic variables and design elements, but i have other things that i am also trying to accomplish with my free time. thanks for the comments nonetheless. they are all good ideas!
the fool icon represents the irony of cynicism, especially when employed in its present context (as pop-design-graphic-etc..). nothing big, really.
anyhow, the site will take some time to complete, especially with the scripting involved. linking pages and checking functionality slow things down n such. but, and to repeat myself, i am hoping to open the new site around the same time that the issue is released. hopefully beginning of spring.
it is inspiring to be working on a new website though..
