News from Thursday, September 04, 2003 @ 10:20 AMWell Peoples… Textural DLA brewing in the minds? Wondering wassup?
Just keep it simple, regular old issue, so [88teeth], uh, sorry no actual textures, and I won’t do anything for you unless you REALLY want to do it and then, let me know what it is and maybe we can figure something out, but you can scan them or photograph them…I don’t want to totally rule everyting out, so if you have some grand idea, let me know about it, and we can discuss things. By the way, as you all have been hinted at, things will be done a bit differently.
Any writings you have, send only text documents for me to set into the pages. If you have imagery and such to accompany them, just make a note of it, or label your images in a way that can be understood. If you have a specific setup in mind, you can always make a mockup in indesign for me to import and edit. Images will all be uploaded into the submissions folder at the good ol site, I will make sure everybody has the passwords when the time comes.Any other artwork you send will be positioned in the zine at my discression, so I will be ignoring any white borders. Full page spreads will be given to all artwork, unless space dictates otherwize, in which case, I will contact the author and give them notice of any resizing, or dual positioning.
You may be wondering why I want so much control over things this time around. Well, it isn’t control, it is uniform design. I want everything in the zine to mesh together and look like one complete publication, with uniform borders, uniform text, fonts, spacing and so forth. I would just like to try one out that way and see how it works and looks. If you guys all think it is crap, then we can go back to the old way, but as I see it, it is just a small way of bringing dla forward, above and beyond what it is.(and from recent mails regarding the website, I think cohesiveness is on the minds of others as well.) We have to keep growing in some way or another, this is just one of my thoughts on the matter. So I hope I wont be treading on anyones pride or anything. Just think, you only have to do artwork, and write stuff if you want, and simply contribute it to the zine. Don’t worry about how it will be arranged. I will do my best to display it all in its best light. I hope you all trust my judgment and ability.
As far as features, articles, I would like to have as much content as possible, so if we could maintain our regular features, that would be cool. [Perishable], if you are interested in writing an Artspace, that would be spiffy. Anyone that wants to volunteer for words, let me know, I have less confidence in my creative writing than in my art. I believe [Sui Lan] will be tackling the Moon Tarot, and if anyone wishes to contribute to Artopsy, that would be cool, I already have a big chunk of text for that one, and if anyone has any other stories, poetry/prose, or articles or features, let me know and lets flesh it out as much as we can, with some quality stuff. There will hopefully be 3 guest submitters from school, expect only artwork, but then again, they might surprize me.
I am sending along a couple of preview pics as inspiration and ideas for the concept of Texture. The concept is broad enough that almost anything can be submitted, thats the idea, it makes it all the easier to create uniformity to the publication.
DUE DATE ON MATERIALS: SEPTEMBER 20
extra time may be allotted if sufficient notice is given.
Written materials MUST be in by this time. Artwork is more forgiving.
This will give me a week to set text and format the zine before school,
I plan on using the printers at school to get cheap prints on the covers,
Thus publication is being planned for beginning to mid October.
Any comments are welcome.
Now have fun and do your art.
