collaboration spelled backwards..

DLa News News from Monday, December 23, 2002 @ 8:29 PM

I had an idea i thought would be interesting in the sort of vein of "comparison/contrast" amongst us with the collaboration issue. I was talking to weech the other night and was reminded of the intertwined past lives of ours in ML and our artistic interests.

I would like to assemble a sort of family-tree image and accompany it by anecdotal histories from each one of us. we would each write a small bit about why and when we started doing art, and if possible, how we remember getting into art with each other over the years (ah, those tender years of development..)

if you are all game for this, send me a brief paragraph or whatever on the above topic and i will arrange it in the fashion of an article, or work with jeff to get it fit in. then we can see where we all stand (stood)!

my upbringing involved two working parents. insufficient attention from them while growing up left me open to explore other possibilities. i used to spend many hours drawing when i was a child. my interest in art evolves from those early experiences. i am habitually conditioned to spend time with art. usually drawing.

in moses lake washington i met other artists. spending high school days high and time with artists, especially for the first few, easier years after graduating, has profoundly changed my life. years of time spent on art, creativity and music has left deep scars. i think art will be the death of me.

you are faster on the draw than anybody else, wyatt!

i was hoping for something more specific, that might reveal something of our connection with each other. what you wrote is perfect – i was looking for specifics in the names, and possibly a clear incident or example of what pushed you into art.

hold on and i will send another blanket to keep us warm.

i just remember really liking the drawings i did. i can’t remember any single event that got me into it. it was the sum of all the little fearful experiences of art that did me. clearly, then, RJW inspired me to do art. he used to be such a devoted artist that i felt really pushed into doing it every day.

you mean something like that?
