News from Sunday, August 11, 2002 @ 5:12 PMGentlemen,
I pray I haven’t pissed either of you off too badly with my website philosophy. Now that I have said what I want to say, I would like to just forget about the whole thing and move on to greener DLa pastures. Perhaps we can discuss the main points of it all during the August meeting. Let’s use the whole thing to make us stronger and set future philosophies, then we can get on with it. Until the meeting, I would like to apologize for any negativity and/or grief that I may have caused either of you. good grief! lets get on with other bizness. the web will sort itself out. That’s basically what I am saying here.
Moving on, let me update you with a few minutes from the first Eastside DLa meeting. Where to begin. [BHBW] is more inspired than I could have ever imagined — he has LOTS of new ideas and planz for DLa. And [Nimbus] is also excited about getting together and advancing the DLa art cause — new art, new ideas, new chillz… But, rather than get into all those now, let me move on to the main point of the evening: The August DLa meeting will NOT be in Ellensburg — Ellensburg will be WAY too crowded with the fair/carnival and with the hordes of incoming/returning CWU college students. There would be no chance of hanging out ANYWHERE in that town on that particular weekend. SO, [BHBW] suggested moving the meeting about 30 miles closer to Seattle, to Rosalyn (not sure on the spelling). I guess there is a bar/restaurant called "the Brick" and it is supposed to be historic (i forget why).
Anyway, I think it would be a good idea to move the meeting there in light of the lunacy that will be happening in E-Burg that weekend. [BHBW] is working on actually calling the folks at the Brick to maybe set up something for sure so we will not have traveled all that way in vain. After he does, I will scan and email directions to everyone along with a final confirmation. If you have objections to moving the meeting, let me know ASAP.
sounds good – Roslyn (i think). The Brick sh*t house. roslyn is pretty small, it shouldnt be hard to find – but directions are always a plus. how many people will be at the meeting? are you, [BHBW], and [Nimbus] all coming? I think so.. i am just trying to calculate business strategies – the want to plan for group dynamix. i dont know if [Sui Lan] is coming, but i would say it is very likely. I hope she does — with financial info..
Last thing. [FCU] has recently encountered financial difficulties and will not be contributing monthly to our cause. I am not sure what he has and has not told you, but his dad is not well and [FCU] may be moving back to tacoma in the near future. So, financially, that leaves us with us and [BHBW], and maybe [Nimbus] — he liked the idea of pitching in, but I don’t think he will pay twenty a month. It sounded like about ten a month would be his upper limit for DLa contributions. I guess that is better than nothing. So I will work that all out and get back to you.
[FCU] told me at the artboard about his dad. $10 a month would more than cover [FCU]’s incoming and outgoing commitments with DLa. if he comes back to McChord maybe we can get him more involved then. I miscommunicated here. [FCU] will not pitch in anything for DLa right now. [Nimbus] will, but not twenty a month — ten a month for [Nimbus]. so it’s me, you, [Osseus], and [BHBW] each at twenty a month, and [Nimbus] at ten a month — all beginning after the komix issue.
I have also contacted [FCU]’s brother, who is excited (if not extremely extremely extremely busy and busy) to get into some art with the rest of us. More on this at the meeting. I think that, despite the arguing, we are making real progress. DLa has changed in a fundamental way, at least for the time being. how? because of the distance in the core? or because the outer rim is becoming more involved in ML? maybe both? plus more?
The time we are all taking now to get things straightened out will only come back to us hundred fold in the future. I believe that we are very close to what we all want: a DLa that is more about art and less about policy/politics/paperwork/etc.. – So don’t give up !!! All the emails/discussions/arguing will get us to that place where we can focus on productivity while relaxing in the stability of our well-laid DLa foundation.. (if that makes sense?).
i think the best thing about the restructure is that we now have an opportunity to do more local collaborationz to share with each other and inspire. i am more interested than ever to see what art goes into the zines. i am too. but also very eager to see DLa become something that takes care of itself, running smoothly in the background like a well-routed server…leaving us all much more time to do actual ART.
