Weech Interview

DLa News News from Monday, May 20, 2002 @ 10:28 AM

Yes, yes,…

I knew I could count on you (once again) for tuf ideaz..

all of those techniques would work, but the drive really sounds smART. here’s why:

  1. environment will be protective, private, and personalized (background music, etc).
  2. a nice drive will present continually changing scenery to stimulate maximum number of neuRONs (i couldnt resist).
  3. assuming everybody shows for the interview (as opposed to just the movie or neither), someone can drive, someone can film, and i can interview. (i don’t think ron should try to think AND drive at the same time–also, with someone else driving, we have the control…).

there are other points, but those are the big ones…
so — excellent idea…do you have any preference as to driving vs filming? i would prefer it if you would do the honors of filming (for many reasons), and if that is cool with you, i will see if ken will drive us around in his car. also, lets try to think of a nice, smooth, scenic route thru weech to travel as we explore (vamos explorars fantasticos!!).

and, finarry, let’s come up with a few good questions for the weechmeister, kick a few emails back n forth to brainstorm inquiring prose.

interrongation:

the most relaxed place for ron would be a closed up hole in the ground. ie- introverted cave-like enviRONment. like when we were at my pad setup.

alternately:

catch ron off-guard. get him some coffee, walk around town a bit and let HIM pick the place, subconsciously. then the hunt is on. possible starter spots for this type of foray are – mall. coffee haus. comic shop.

or alt/alternately:

drive him around town (or let him drive) and shoot the interview as a conversation in the car..? hope this gets your blood pumpin. you are the inter-master-viewer! so i am sure it will turn up tuff in the end. uh.. you know..

th.

did ron ever get a hold of you?

my blood is indeed pumpin’…
that last email was getting a bit lengthy so here is a fresh 1 4 U.

yes, ron did get ahold of me (on sunday). and, as per our diabolical planz, i scheduled a noon-to-seven block of time with him (in an EXTRA extra extra nice way). he is in ML until tuesday morning, however, but he said that he would definitely be back by noon…so we’ll see.

now, for the second phazE of operation namely, figuring out a specific plan for tuesday’s eventz..so to begin this processsss, here is my tuesday schedule and then send me yours (and we will assume ken and ron are ours for the scheduling):

tuesday: I am free all day! I DO have a TON of art to do, however.

so email me your schedule (and ideaz, etc.) and we will go from there.

On second thought, and I hope you have time (and patience) to sit thru my thinking process, in order to maximize the interview, I think we should consider the following.

I think one of the reasons the Kaufman interview turned out so well was that it was treated seriously, as an “official” kind of interview. The appointment was made. We met promptly at a relatively neutral location (that was also very relaxing). There were few distractions (women passing by). these factors, i believe, were crucial in getting a decent response set from the Big TK…

Now, apply this reasoning to Ronz situation. If it is too informal (for whatever reason), we may have a difficult time getting the sweet kind of quotes from ron that i know we can get. In other words, the formal nature of the interview is what kept tony interested and focused on DOING HIS VERY BEST to answer the questions in a thoughtful, intelligent, and witty way. I think that if things were less formal (for example, if gene were also there and everyone was joking around, etc., i think we may have had more fun, but only at the expense of response quality–ie DLA’s feature article would have been less than it was).

With Ron, especially with all four us there, there is a HIGH probability of getting sidetracked and ridiculous. so my question is, what can we do to pull off a professional-grade interview given the hand we’ve been dealt. you and I are professionals. at least we can be. that is how i see it. lets pimp this one up as tuf as we can, because who knows what the

future holds for us and DLA…
